Gifted Children ... see more ... see further ... learn differently

What are the implications of this statement? Is it true? What does it mean? Why does it happen?

A key factor for gifted children is that they experience life with greater intensity. This isn't a choice, and it can't be learned. It's the way they're made. It applies whether they're gifted intellectually, creatively, ethically - whatever. It means that in their key areas, they think more deeply, feel more acutely, than most of their peers.

It isn't actually a gift - it can make life more difficult for the child amongst other children.

But it means that they comprehend, not just factually, but conceptually. It means they are likely to want to know the how and the why - and to seek to explore the what next, the what if....

That makes them very satisfying to teach - but they also need some different strategies. And those strategies need to be very practical indeed for the busy classroom teacher.

If you've read this far in this blog, go back to the main menu and check out what's available there to help you discover those strategies for your classroom - the highly effective courses we offer, the suggested books, the guidance from other sources.
